12 days: winter beer tasting

Tuesday was Day 5 of my 12 Days of Christmas. Corey and I and a few of our friends went to a Christmas & winter beer tasting at our favorite bar, which happens to exclusively serve vegan food. Being a vegetarian, I love going to restaurants where I can eat anything on the menu! That is because at most other restaurants, I can eat 1-2 things on the menu. Big difference.

I took all of these pictures with Corey's phone, by the way.

A few days before, they had a Festivus celebration, and the decor was left up from that. We are big Seinfeld fans, so of course we were amused. That's a life-sized cutout of Frank Costanza, by the way, with an aluminum pole beside him. There was also a bulletin board where people could post their grievances.

Technically, I didn't do the beer tasting. They have a beer tasting every single Tuesday (the theme varies) but normally you taste 4-5 beers. For this one, it was 12! I decided to pass. I tasted most of Corey's, though, so I still participated.

Each table had a list of the 12 beers with descriptions. Since moving here, I have learned a lot about different types of beer, because there is just a wider variety available here. It's actually a really interesting topic to me, and I am impressed by my own knowledge of it since I used to know next to nothing! Now I would like to learn more about wine.

Corey was talking very animatedly to our friends so I couldn't get a good picture of him!

This one was a chocolate cherry beer. It tasted like a cherry cordial! Corey did not like it, so he gave it to me. I thought it was good, but I don't know if I could drink an entire glass of it.

We had a lot of fun! Stay tuned for Days 6-12 of my 12 Days of Christmas! I will be posting some DIY tutorials.

I'm am having a really hard time looking at that picture of the cut out- the proportions look so strange to me and it looks like it's in a dollhouse or something! Also, I am not seeing George Costanza, I'm seeing Ira Glass. So confused!

Beer tasting sounds super fun, and cordial always reminds me of Anne of Green Gables when Anne thinks she's giving Diana raspberry cordial and it's really Marilla's homemade currant wine!

Beer is not my cup of tea (tea is, actually!) but I'm vegetarian-almost-vegan so a vegan bar sounds delicious! Fortunately I live in Western MA where we do have a lot of great veggie/vegan places to eat out.

Looking forward to seeing your DIYS!

Not an option for me right now, but I love the idea! I grew up thinking beers were crappy, watered down frat-house beers. Now that I'm older and wiser, I know there's an art form to beering. (I made up that verb) Chocolate cherry? Cool!

Sarah, I know, the cutout was ridiculous! It didn't look as out of proportion in person, though...and the room looks weird because the cutout is sitting on their stage (they have live music sometimes) which has full-length mirrors behind it! I used a weird Instagram setting for that one too. I don't remember that part of Anne of Green Gables (which I read 12 years ago!) but I most certainly loved that book.

Maeg, lots of great veggie places in Columbus too! It is so refreshing after living my whole life in the South (which I love, but, Southern food is NOT veggie friendly!). I am nearly vegan as well, I eat dairy cheese or chocolate once in a blue moon but most days I am all vegan. I hope you enjoy my DIY posts, which are starting tomorrow!

Tamara, I love that you made up the word beering! I am going to have to use that one. Corey and I made up a name for beer should we ever brew any: Cheep Bear (it is a pun on "cheap beer" and our label would have a picture of a bird and a bear on it! ha!). The chocolate cherry beer was really unique! There was also a chocolate mint one but that was not as good.

Mmmm, beer-y educational! What an awesome way to spend the evening, I'm glad you got to try so many unique types of beer.

Microbrews are nearly impossible to find in Spain--in fact, the norm is to mix beer with fizzy water or lemon soda!!

What! I can't believe it's the norm to mix beer with soda or sparkling water!! That sounds...interesting. I'm sad you can't find any good beer in Spain! What are the popular drinks?

Since it's typical to have one drink with each tapa, diluting beer makes it possible for the alcohol not to go to one's head. I used to think it was strange but now I'm actually quite partial to beer + limón!

Wine is very popular, but at any restaurant you'll find wine with lemon soda, cava (a Spanish fizzy beverage similar to champagne), and mosto (a non-alcoholic grape juice). And plain lemon soda, of course :)
